Search Engine Optimisation
By Zoey on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009 at 10:37 am…Is it Ripping you Off?
I came across this article “Is your SEO expert ripping you off” and it mentioned some interesting points. I decided that it might be a good idea to address these points in regards to LTSEO and our optimisation services.
Point Number One:
If your competitors are doing it too (likely), are you both paying for something that doesn’t generate a competitive advantage?
Well, if an SEO team was to take on say 10 people in one industry and rank them for the same keyword then that’s just ridiculous and you’re definitely paying for something that doesn’t generate a competitive advantage. At LTSEO, we only take on a maximum of 3 businesses per industry/location in order to achieve quality results and a greater competitive advantage. In terms of keywords, there are so many combinations of long tail and main level keywords which make it difficult to actually double up on rankings. Not to mention the collateral effect that you get from SEO (which we’ve discussed in previous posts).
Point Number Two: Nobody outside of Google actually knows how their algorithm works.
Definitely true, no one can precisely know how it works. However, as with anything, if you work with it long enough you begin to have a feel for it. We can only predict what will happen, and our predictions so far have been on track. Through our experience with Google we have developed strategies that successfully obtain first page rankings. We’re not offering first position rankings because no one can offer that, that’s virtually impossible. Each search is different so positioning on the first page is variable from position one to position ten.
Point Number Three: Every web developer in the world has hopped on the SEO bandwagon.
Let’s get this straight once and for all. If your web developer is offering you SEO most likely it’s a once off on page optimisation. I’m not putting web developers down, they’re good at what they do…Web Developing. If you needed specialised surgery would you ask your GP to do it? If you’ve got half a brain you’re probably saying no…I hope. SEO is a specialist service and like any specialist we get down to the nitty gritty of optimizing your website on page and off page, not once, not twice, but continuously.
So this is where we revisit the point of research and the power of asking questions. When you are thinking of engaging the services of an SEO Company ask questions, maybe even see what they say in terms of the points mentioned above.
For Example:
- In terms of Google’s Algorithm, how can you predict where my website will be, how can you guarantee my page will be there, what previous results have you achieved for other businesses?
- What about my competitors? What if you have other businesses that are in my industry and they want to rank for the same keyword?
- What processes would you put into my website to get it optimized to page one?
Understanding and asking questions is imperative to your online success, you don’t want to be 12 months down the track working with the wrong SEO Company with no results.
